Islamabad High Court cause list: how to check it online
Updated . This guide explains how to use the court's own list; it does not reproduce the list.
The Islamabad High Court sits at a single seat and publishes its cause list through the court's Management Information System (MIS) portal rather than as a scanned notice. You can filter the list to one judge, one lawyer or one case, and the same portal carries the lists of the Islamabad district courts.
This page explains which lists the court publishes, when they are usually issued, how to search by lawyer name or case number, what the colours mean, and where advocates go wrong.
Which lists the IHC publishes
Regular cause list
The main list for each working day, the Regular category on the portal. Each entry gives the assigned judge or judges, the stage, the parties and the advocates on record.
Supplementary and urgent lists
Cases added after the regular list was drawn up appear under Supplementary; fresh petitions and applications fixed at short notice appear under Urgent. Neither is included in a regular-list search, which is why they are the lists most often missed.
Lawyer Wise list
The Lawyer Wise category arranges the day's cases by counsel instead of by judge, so every matter in which you or your chamber appear is on one screen.
Objections / Cancellation List and Weekly List (R)
The Objections / Cancellation List covers matters with office objections or whose listing has been cancelled; look there when an expected case is missing. The Weekly List (R) shows the week's regular fixtures in one view, for planning only.
Colour-coded entries
The legend reads Red text indicates Red-Cause-List/OLD Cases, Blue text indicates Civil Miscelleneous (the portal's spelling) and Green text indicates Connected Cases. Connected cases are usually called with their lead matter.
When the lists are published
The portal does not print a publication time. Lists for a hearing date are usually published the working day before and can be revised, so re-check before you leave for court.
Supplementary and urgent lists are issued as cases are fixed, after the regular list. Check those categories again in the morning.
The Hearing Date selector offers Today and Monday to Friday; anything beyond tomorrow is a plan, not a fixture.
Where to find the official list
The official list is on the court's MIS portal: IHC cause list (mis.ihc.gov.pk). Every list is on that one page.
The court selector lists Islamabad High Court, District Court (East), District Court (West), Special Courts / Tribunals and Supreme Court of Pakistan. For the Islamabad district courts this is the page to use; for the Supreme Court, treat the Supreme Court's own list as the record.
If there is doubt about whether a case is fixed, the portal is what counts, not a screenshot from a chamber group.
How to search by advocate name or case number
- Open the IHC cause list page and choose the category: Regular, Supplementary, Urgent or Lawyer Wise.
- In the court selector pick Islamabad High Court, or District Court (East) or District Court (West) for a district court matter.
- Set the Hearing Date: Today or one of Monday to Friday.
- To find one case, enter its number in the Case Number field. It takes digits only (the hint reads Enter valid Case Number. Only numbers are allowed), so leave out the type and year and confirm them in the results.
- To find all your cases, use the Lawyer Name field, a Select Lawyer dropdown rather than a free-text box; if the same name appears twice, check both.
- Note the judge, stage and date for each result, then repeat in the other categories for the same date.
How to read a row

| Court | Which court the entry belongs to, since district court matters are on the same portal. |
| Judge(s) | The judge or judges assigned; a division bench shows more than one name. Read it daily. |
| Case stage | What the case is listed for: preliminary hearing, arguments, compliance or a particular application. |
| Parties and advocates | The parties and counsel on record. If your name is missing from a case you appear in, the vakalatnama may not have been entered. |
| Dates | The hearing date and any other dates shown. Check it matches the date you searched before noting the case. |
Common mistakes
- Checking only the Regular category; Urgent and Supplementary matters for the same date are separate searches.
- Typing the case type or year into the Case Number field, which accepts numbers only. A rejected search is easy to mistake for a case that is not listed.
- Picking the wrong entry in the Select Lawyer dropdown when a name appears twice, then treating an empty result as a free day.
- Reading a District Court (East) or District Court (West) entry as a High Court fixture.
- Checking once, early in the week, and not again the evening before.

What do the red, blue and green entries on the IHC list mean?
The legend on the portal says red text indicates the red cause list or old cases, blue text indicates civil miscellaneous matters, and green text indicates connected cases. Read the legend on the page for the meaning in force on the day, not an older explanation.
